I can't believe I forgot to bring my firewire cable to Shanghai. I brought the video camera this time, and even took the trouble to shoot some video on St. Patrick's Day, only to realize I left my firewire cable in Singapore.
In fact, I think I left two firewire cables in Singapore. If I remember correctly, I've done this once before, and had to hunt for a cable in Shanghai. Somehow, instead of leaving one in each of my homes, I've got both of them in Singapore!
Anyway, I managed to go get a new cable at the big electronics supply shop in Metro City, where there are numerous stalls in one big showroom selling all sorts of cables and accessories. I found what I wanted, after a lot of description (I don't know what it is called in Chinese), but it cost me a small fortune. The exact same cable that goes for US$7 on Amazon cost me about US$20 here. (Of course, if I had shipped it, I guess it would end up the same.)
Anyway, you can find pretty much whatever you need in this mini-warehouse at Xujiahui, but it's way better to just not forget the cables in the first place.
